Truett/McConnell

Good evening...

I am currently sitting in a hotel room in Helen, Ga. writing to you while watching March Madness and the Sean Hannity programs. Why are you in Helen, you may be asking? Glad you asked! Today, as a trustee at Truett/McConnell colege in Cleveland, Ga., I attended the inauguaration (SP) of Dr. Emir Caner (my friend!) as the 8th President of this Georgia Baptist Convention affiliated school. It was a tremndously uplifting event. The college choir sang and muscians played and boy are they talented! The line-up of speakers was second to none. Dr. Johnny Hunt, President of the SBC and Senior Pastor of the First Baptist church of Woodstock, Ga. spoke first from the book of Titus. He was followed by Dr. Ergun Caner, President of the Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary and brother of the new President, who spoke to the students and staff and faculty. He was followed by Dr. Paige Patterson, former president of the SBC and current President of the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary who spoke from II Kings 4.
The significance of a former sunni muslem who has discovered that Jesus Christ is truly the Son of God and who is in fact, the ONLY way to Heaven can not be underestimated. I am excited for what this development means for secondary religious education in the state of Georgia, and what it means for religious education in general. A new day has dawned in Georgia, a new day for the better!
May God richly bless Dr. Emir Caner and family!
